Oxalis carnosa (syn. Oxalis megalorrhiza) is a succulent Wood-Sorrel native to the Pacific slope of Chile and Peru. The species is summer growing and winter dormant in its native habitat but will grow year round if the right growing conditions are provided.This easy to grow plant can develop a nice thick caudex within a single season.The name carnosa, meaningnbsp;fat, succulent, refers to the swollen rootstock.The succulent erect stems grow full and bushy and are marginally frost hardy.In the summer the stems are awash in cheery yellow, one inch wide flowers followed by exploding seed pods.~ Propagation ~Scatter the sorrel seeds on top of well moistened potting soil and cover container with transparent plastic or glass to increase humidity. Don't cover the seeds as they need light to germinate reliably. Place in a bright location in indirect sunlight at 75 Fahrenheit (25deg;C). Oxalis carnosa seeds may germinate over an extended period of time, from 1 to 4 weeks, and require moist conditions in order to germinate reliably. Transplant the seedlings to individual pots in well draining soil once they grow 4-5 true leaves with 3 leaflets each.
