Confederate Rose Hibiscus mutabilis Tri-color Flower Seeds 25+ See description for Germination Hints
Germinating Confederate Rose SeedsStep 1: Remove seeds from plastic bag and notice fuzzy outside of seed. This is normal. The seed coat is hard and must be broken down to speed the germinating process. Take 2 pieces of sand paper and rub the seeds between them until all fuzzy coating is removed and some of the seed coat. They should change color from dark to a lighter brown. Step 2: Put seeds in bowl and pour 140 degree water over them and let them soak for 1 to 2 days. They should get noticeably larger because they have soaked up water.Step 3: Plant shallowly in a seed starter mix and keep moist. They should germinate in 5 to 15 days depending how much seed coat you removed. Confederate rose is a woody perennial in zones 7-11. You can grow them as an annual in other locations and it will flower the first year if planted inside early enough. Mine have survived down to 9 degrees F. The foliage is one of its best attributes. Huge maple shaped leaves are very tropical looking.
