Penstemon grandiflorus (Large Flowered Beardtongue) 20 Flower Seeds

Large lavender-pink, tubular flowers attract many types of bees, butterflies and hummingbirds on this 30” tall native beardtongue. One of the showiest penstemon, it prefers full sun to partial shade in dry conditions. Blooming from May thru June, it is the host plant for Chalcedon Checkerspot and Edith’s Checkerspot butterflies. Perennial in USDA Hardiness Zones 3-7. Seed sowing instructions: Seeds can be sown at any time but are best sown in winter or early spring to benefit from a cold spell in the wet compost to break their dormancy. Sow seed in pots or flats of moistened seed starting mix and cover seed thinly with fine grit or a little dry seed-starting mix and spritz with water to moisten. Place the covered pot or tray into a cold area such as a refrigerator or cold garage for 4-8 weeks. Bring back into warm temperatures, provide light and keep moist to germinate.
