The seed was passed from Evert Pettit to Sue and Tom Knoche, Ohio squash collectors. All these seed stewards were among SSE’s earliest members. Although originally from the south, it does extremely well in the North. Wonderful cream-colored acorn squash. The golden-orange flesh is thick and delicious with a sweet potato and chestnut flavor, and is enormously productive! Thelma described this good keeper as ‘better than sweet potatoes.’ Perfect for making for sauces, curries, and pies. Keeps well for months, with the longest shelf life of any acorn squash, and sweetens during storage. This lighter colored squash helps prevent sunscald in the deep South.
